You bring up something interesting. I live Capitol Hill area where paint tagging is problem on a weekly basis. It's best stopped ASAP. I'm curious if I can use paint on utility items that have been marked. Example: There's a 2'x4' 5' tall gray utility box on my sidewalk. If I use a close matching gray, am I allowed to cover graffiti? ... Does your group have or distribute info on this to local home owners?
Calling West Seattle and Capitol Hill Volunteers
Are there any Biznikers who really like volunteering in their community and giving back? I have been organizing a graffiti prevention and removal education/work event in the City of Seattle for the past seven years. I had so much fun when I first volunteered I'm still here. We have teams, food, give-a-ways, special guests, media, City officials and more. The big event is Saturday, August 23rd launching from the West Seattle Target store at 1:30pm and Sunday, August 24th launching from the Fire Department in Capitol Hill at 1:00pm. For more information, call me at 206-686-5808 or check out the website at 'http://www.paintout.org'

Dear Chris:
Wow, you emailed me just in time. We are doing a paint out on Capitol Hill from 9am - noon this Saturday from the Fire Station at 13th and E. Pine.
I would love to have you come and see what it is all about and perhaps even get you your very own stocked radio flyer wagon complete with all the supplies you need including the gray paint.
You can paint out the utility box with the gray paint. You are allowed to cover the graffiti as long as it is safe. Should it be hard to reach, feel free to report this information to the graffiti reporting hotline at 206-684-7587 and Seattle Public Utilities will put it on their schedule.
Note: If it is private property you need to get a permission slip signed. I have those available if you would like me to fax one to you.
Sincerely,
Helen
