  • Thanks to everyone who showed up!

It was exactly what I had in mind - good books, ideas, people and conversation.

    See you again next month.

  • BTW - if you like quirky twitter apps, check out bkkeepr. It's a twitter bookmark, tracking down the books you read, marking your place and so on. Really cool!

  • @Dan - I use LinkedIn mostly as a research and connection tool for business development. It got me a foot in some doors I wouldn't have got to otherwise.

  • In a way, I don't think I really get the question. Why is there supposed to be one single phrase that will precisely describe biznik, while covering all the functions? I mean, does Yahoo have on?

The current tag line is really good. It catches the core functionality and purpose (business networking) and adds a tongue in cheek memorable and edgily phrased comment about community. Essentially, once you begin using biznik, you realize that the thing that is sucking about all other networks is the lack of real community. So it works very well for me.

    My 2c.

  • @alex - goo one.

I am curious - did you (or anyone else) ever try using p2p networks to promote your free product?

  • Dan, what is the problem you are trying to address? Is there an actual marketing goal (e.g. higher conversion rate) or is it more about your own sense of coherence?

  • Angela, great work! It brings up a very important thing to remember as a consumer - to buy products that are made from recycled material. This is the real closing of the circle as a consumer. Otherwise, all this recycling we are doing is not really effective.

  • Carol, I have read about it before.

I think the very basic point is that almost everything disposable is not earth-friendly, unless it is 100% bio-degradable.

  • @Victoria - welcome. Sounds like great suggestions. Feel free to bring whichever books inspire/d you with regards to the environment in your life and work.

I look forward to hearing your take on these ones.

  • @Laurel - noted. I decided on 6PM as many people will be off work by then. But maybe a late lunch bookclub can work for some people. I'll ask :)

@Richard - I'm glad you'll be joining us, and look forward to see you again. I hope we'll get to speak more this time.

  • Very useful tips everyone!

To add to the theme of the human connection:

    • In our Eco-Libris blog we actually do content swaps with other blogs. These can happen on a regular basis, say once a week we post someone's article and they post ours, with an appropriate reference and links of course. Sometimes it is more about inviting a guest blogger to post something. Guest bloggers tell their network about the new post.

The above saves some writing time, get some link love, and of course some traffic too.

    • Whenever you write about a person or a company, do let them know about it with a friendly email. If you chose your topics acordingly, then this can becomes a very useful biz dev technique

Posted Sep 04, 2008 Have you upgraded your Biznik account? by Jonathan Himmelstein
  • Actually, when I first upgraded to active member, it was the enhanced profile features. Namely, listing websites, IMs, and the blog posts at the bottom.

Upgrading to gold was realizing that having those stars actually increases visibility, and that I am actually getting real value, so why not give some back and get more while at it.

But stars or no stars, it's the events that are the real deal. At least in my relatively newbie's perspective.
