What Karen does

I am a holistic attorney. I talk with clients from a whole person/big picture perspective. When we talk about business development or conflict resolution, we talk about why the called me and identify the hurldes which prevent them from getting what they want. Education is a large part of my legal practice. I enjoy speaking to groups of business owners about starting up and operating businesses. I teach courses in law (including employment law) at the undergraduate and graduate levels. I teach a course I designed on ethics and risk. When I teach courses in law, I integrate my material on risk and ethics into the lesson plans.

I give workshops and presentations. I am available for training seminars concerning conflict and various aspects of business development.

I am a writer. My chapter on ethics (part of a statewide training manual for forensic custody investigators) was published in 2008. I am in the editing phase of two books that I hope to make available in 2009.

I am a forensic custody investigator in Kitsap and Jefferson Counties. I am a consultant for other investigators statewide and also consult with out of state clients and clients in other counties regarding custody disputes.

What Karen does best

I listen. Listening is an art . I listen with an open mind and let my clients lead the conversations.

I evaluate risk. I teach a class in Risk and Ethics at University of Washington-Tacoma. I teach classes in law and sociology at Chapman University. In all my classes, we discuss risk: recognition, evaluation and strategies.

I weave together law, risk and the facts to help my clients evaluate their options and choices.
