  • Great reminders of things that we absolutely must do to keep these important relationships for our businesses alive and thriving. And we let ourselves get so busy in life that we let these important touches get away from us. Good stuff.

    Thanks.

  • Pam,

This is truly a great concept. Jim gives a great example of Walgreens in his book about convenience as their hedgehog concept. And there are now 4 stores going up near my neighborhood within about 10 miles of each other. Great wisdom! Great reminder.

    Thanks.

  • Pam,

Who couldn't be inspired by your article? I want a blue ocean. Who wouldn't. I really like when you introduced the notion of being business insane. I had never quite thought of it in those terms. But is is insane to keep fighting the same bloody battles in red oceans.

    Great article.

  • Tyson, it is amazing how many times your photo comes up online and represents you. I love the idea of the avatar and changing up the look. I have also seen your work and would love to have 5-7 shots that could be rotated in my profiles to change things up a bit and keep it fresh.

Thanks for the inspiration to make sure that we are focusing attention to this area!

  • Rachel,

Thanks. I find that I tend to do more with those that I respect, and that have really demonstrated that they are really good at what they do. Rachel Whalley is all that and more. She even had a lunch with me to help understand my own personality traits and how to use them best for business.

    Thanks Rachel!!!!!!

  • Zita,

I love you idea of conveying a message that is "sticky." The largest benefits of networking are soliciting an army of people that want to represent you through word-of-mouth, far beyond what you can do on your own. It is a powerful multiplier. And being sticky is so far beyond representing the facts as you bring to life.

You also talk about being relaxed and enjoy being with other people once you have down what you are going to say. That also breeds confidence. And we are all seeking leaders in their particular specialty that can answer the questions that we don't know how to answer ourselves. Confidence in your message delivery is key to confidence in representing and/or hiring you.

    Thanks for the tremendous insights.

  • Rick,

I couldn't agree more with a ton of what you wrote in the article. But what made the most sense to me was working on your business. We all want to just jump into action, get clients and start earning money. Working on your business can be time intensive and seemingly on the surface not helping to generate revenue. When in fact, it is the exact opposite.

Anyone that wants to scale their business has to think about how it can run without them. This is a major hurdle for most businesses.

Thanks for bringing that topic up for discussion.

  • Patricia,

Isn't it great to see how just asking yourself a few good questions can make you think in new ways.

I'm so glad that this is helping.

  • Glenn and David,

Thank you so much for your comments. Branding is the most important first step. Glenn, I get a great sense for your services and what I will see, but I don't know what your brand promise is? How are you different than the rest of the diving companies. And I'm sure that the answer to that question lies within your customers. What is that emotional connection that your company so greatly creates with the customer. I want to hear some of that in addition to the types of dives...which look really great.

    Thanks.

  • Lee Ann,

You are very welcome. It is so important to spend the time to think through what you are doing before we just simply start doing. And at the same time, when we are in the doing phase, not all information is equal when promoting your company. So a practical way of looking at how to distill what is important from what is not a handy tool to have.

I'm so glad that you enjoyed the article.

  • Rachel,

Thanks for the vote of support. They are articles that put into plain english what needs to happen to create a powerful brand. And that is the starting point for making anything you do in marketing work that much harder for you. I look forward to seeing you there.

  • Jen and Cathy,

The best way to be successful is to know your customers better than any one else. They are, by the way, the highest authority. We simply manage our brands, but the ownership lies in the minds and perceptions of others.

  • Thank you Stacey. It is always great to hear from somebody with a marketing background. I just hear the struggle and confusion that you talk about with businesses on a daily basis. They don't know where to start, and arguably it is because they aren't an expert and immersed in marketing on a daily basis.

But the best first step is always to define your brand. Everything from then on just works that much harder on your behalf.

    Thanks for the comments.

  • Nancy and Winnie,

Thank you so much for such great response. If we can all find that simple emotional connection that you talk about Nancy, we;ll go from being considered to being the only choice. It is that powerful.

    Thanks.

  • Carol and Judy,

I would love to have both of you attend the seminar. It does open up the whole entire side of marketing...closing the sale. We all focus too much on the tactics of attracting customers, but not enough time in how to convert those leads.

    Hope to see you there.
